After scoring 80 million views on YouTube, this particular video was taken down. It is neither a work of a hacker nor the original owner felt sad about it, but actually, a copyright issue has popped up. Wonder how? Here it goes..
The song “Jimmikki Kammal” composed by Shaan Rahman for the film Velipadinte Pusthakam became an instant chartbuster on YouTube. With Hollywood host Jimmy Kimmel tweeting about the song as the lyrics sounding is close to his name, the song gained more popularity. In no time, it got almost 80 million views before YouTube pulled it down.
A dig into the news revealed that the song was put down because of a copyright claim from a TV channel. Rather selling separate digital rights and satellite rights, the makers of the film sold all the wholesale rights of the film to this TV channel. And now that they have the right to upload video as well, they have claimed copyrights over the song that fetched 80 million views.
With nothing to do, the audio company has to give up the song that has 80 million views. In such cases, generally, no one will lay a copyright claim because garnering 80 million views yet again is a tough task to achieve.
